A group of thirty-three volunteers crochet year ‘round and create a variety of hand-made items. Lap Robes are created and given as gifts at Christmas to the residents of a selected nursing homes or assisted living facility. During the year our Lap Robes are also provided to the patients of Holy Name Medical Center’s Hospice Program, Blanket and hats are hand-made and provided for newborn babies at St. Mary’s Hospital; Tiny little garments, hats and blankets are also created for the families of stillborn babies at St. Mary’s Hospital; Comfort Pillows are made for children and adults undergoing chemotherapy at area hospitals and hospice programs.
Effective, June 2015 HHM has expanded the creativity of our craft projects. In addition to crocheting we have added knitting, and we are currently seeking additional volunteers to participate. We will be creating our hand knit and hand crocheted items for seamen at Christmas time. This will be a year-round project so when the Christmas season is upon us we will have many hand-crafted gifts to send to the sea merchants. We will be providing our gifts to the Seaman’s Church Institute based in Port Newark. We are excited about this new project but we need many hands to work at home to help. So give some thought to helping us with this “Christmas at Sea” program. Patterns, yarn, knitting needles & crocheting needles are provided for you. HHM wishes to thank both Judy and Elda for starting as our first two knitters!
